“A nd you don’t have any way to see who this was. Who was taking these pictures?” Amy asked the security guard. His name-tag said his name was McCarty, and he tugged at the beige necktie he wore in the dark uniform like the thing was suddenly choking him.

Amy wished it could have been any other security guard. He was the same guard who’d showed up in the parking lot and ran off Joe. He wasn’t exactly happy to see her, either.

“No, I don’t. I can’t even be sure where these were taken. And with cell phones, anyone could have done it. He could have done it walking by. They’re not the best quality, which means movement.”

“Or zoom,” she replied.

“You told me what day those were taken on. I checked the schedule. You were a floater. You were all over the hospital. The photographer—”

“Joe,” Amy corrected.

“The photographer.”

“It was Joe. Who else would do this?”

“You have no more proof.”

She sighed. “Look, can I just have copies of the surveillance? I’ll take it to the Templars or something. Don’t they have tech people?”

He laughed. “You’re a nurse. You should know better than that. You’ll need a lot more than just a promise to get surveillance from a hospital.”

Amy stood up and slammed her hands on his desk. “I have a Man. Stalking. Me. He put pictures under my door. Yet I can’t get any help from my employer.”

McCarty ran his hand through his hair, showing off his widow’s peak. “Look, my hands are tied. I can only do what I can do.”

Amy nodded. “So, I’m on my own.”

“You’re going to have to get some legal warrant or some such to see any sort of surveillance. It’s the law.”

She snorted. “Since when did mythicals follow human law?”

“When human lawyers sue mythicals just like they sue humans.”

Amy sighed and started to leave the office. Unfortunately, he was right. She was pretty sure he wouldn’t be able to help her. She’d hoped that she was wrong, but evidently, it wasn’t going to be that way.

There wasn’t anything he could do for her.

Wait.

She turned and glanced at him, a thought hit her. “There is one thing you can do for me.”

“Probably not, but give it your best shot.”

She tipped her head to the side. “You’re in the Greyson pack.”

McCarty went still.

“You are. He’s your beta, isn’t he?”

He didn’t take his eyes off her when he spoke. “No.”

But his voice rang hollow and forced.

“I think you are,” Amy said. “You warned me to drop this and get away before. You helped cover this up.”

He shook his head. “You’re wrong.”

“Are you loyal to your pack or your employer?” Amy asked.

“You’re better off if you just go back to Avalon. You’d be safer there.”

Amy shook her head. “Why would I run?”

“Why would you stay?”
